Mealworms
« on: May 10, 2011, 19:09 »
Today my wife found mealworms in HomeBargains priced at 1.29 for 100 grms.
I was surprised to read on the back of the pack:
Not for human consumption.
May contain nuts!
Wow.

Chickens luv em!

I breed my own for the blackbirds etc.   No peanuts are harmed during this process !   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

When a mummy meal worm and a daddy meal worm love each other very much, they have a special cuddle and baby meal worms are born!

hehe

It really is as simple as you like - get a tub,(size depending on how many you want to breed) put an inch orso or porridge oats, crumbled up dry food (dog biscuits/cornflakes etc etc)

Add a few egg boxes turned upside down (for the baby meal bugs to hide in)

Buy some live meal worms and put them in the box

Leave them alone for a while.

When you get bugs, put some stale bread (or something similar) in, the bugs will lay eggs on the bread and loads more worms will arrive.

Take out the dead adult bugs and feed them to your chooks, and wait for the worms to grow up.

Take what you need and leave some to mature to carry on your little meal flock hehe
I hate signatures but love irony
