Twirly 4 Toms?
« on: May 10, 2011, 12:53 »
Here are my tomatoes,

as grown from seed indoors, not yet hardened off, but looking at them I wondering if it's still too early to plant out under the sunny skies of West Sussex?

Going to have to get mine out soon all this warm weather is begining to make them leggy. Last night one of the old boys were putting his in for the same reason & he says there is no frost up north & they get it before us so should be fine. Lets hope so, as the courgettes & cucumbers are going in as well so fingers crossed!

You may well be OK down there, but I remember the frosts of June last year.

If I were you, I'd pot them up individually, burying them a little way further down the stem and then start to harden them off. They look as though they could do with a little strengthening, but otherwise look good plants.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Up here, we've been out of single figures temperature-wise overnight for a week now. They are forecasting single figures again for tonight and generally cooling down again.

Do you have a local weather station you could consult for recent trends and compare that with the forecast?

We had hard frosts last week in the south.
I would move some into bigger pots and maybe plant one or two 'scouts' out on the plot to see how they get on. :)

I echo the rest: repot and start hardening them off, starting with 30 minutes in dappled shade for a few days, then work up to an hour. Bring them back inside afterward. I've just put mine out but in an enclosed mini greenhouse as my temps are close to 20Cs lately.
