Wanted - speedy poo picking tips!!
« on: May 05, 2011, 18:09 »
I have just recently given over a bit of the lawn to my 4  chooks who are happily cutting the grass and dropping copious amounts of their smelly droppings all over it.

With the recent warm weather the flies have come over a fair bit so I will need to poo pick a bit more regularly....HOWEVER....
does anyone have any little tips  for how to pick up poo quickly from a flattish grassy area?

Does raking it work??

Any tips useful

Mine is with a trowel and plant pot. Sometimes, it all gets picked up by the lawnmower.

We use a plastic garden scoop and a wallpaper scraper.

A flymo picks it up but you need a mask for the dust.
**it really does hit the fan. :)

Putt-ing the poo onto a long handled dustpan with a hoe works for me.

I use a plastic leaf rake and just distribute it around the grass till it has gone. Lovely fertiliser!!
3 o'clock is both too early and too late to start anything - Sartre said so.

Does it still not attract the flies??

Also, does it burn the grass?

No, I rake pretty vigorously and it just works in, but I guess it depends on what your lawn to poo ratio is.

I hate to say it but I use fingers...except for the sticky smelly ceacal poo.
Quick scoop and it comes up in one go and gets chucked on the beds. I try to divide it fairly.
Sticky ones I use a leaf to scrape up then onto the beds and if there's any left a quick hose jet disperses it and prevents flies on the lawn. (What lawn....we need rain!)
When done I have a thorough hand scrub!

I use the hose - quick jet of water breaks it up and doesn't allow it to burn the grass.

Hi
I use latex gloves for the coop, cheap from poundland.
For the garden I use a bucket on its side and a garden trowel, then I flick the poo into the bucket. It can be quite amusing to see how far and accurate you can get.  :D
