Fruit leaves
« on: April 30, 2011, 21:54 »
Hello all.

Went down to my allotment today and a friend did notice on the large plum tree we have at the bottom on some of its leaves that their appears to be small white like cysts and was wondering what could be causing this.

Sorry i know should have took a piccy and posted it :(.

Anyway if any of you out there may identify what it is i would be most gratefull :).

Without a pic, it's hard to say what you have. It could be peach scale, which needs control with dormant oil spray in fall or very early spring before bud break.

Or it could be plum pocket, which also starts out as white spots. It's a fungal disease that can only be controlled with fungicide during the tree's dormant period.  The area around the plum must also also be kept free of fallen leaves to prevent spores from being swept onto the tree by rain and wind.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but if possible would like some more advice.

With regards to the piccys above, been looking on the internet and books for the past few days and cant really find anything that matches what the pictures are showing.

So if anyone outhere has any ideas or knows of any sites that i can check upon , would be most welcome.

It could be Leaf Blister Mite, the blisters start off green according to this

The pictures there are for pear blister might, but I couldn't find pics quickly for the plum one

Hello Moonglow,

look at the selections on your camera, there may be one showing a flower, select this one and you can photograph a lot closer and still be in sharp focus.  8)  Cheers,    Tony.
