Does anyone elses chickens love the rain?
« on: May 05, 2011, 18:30 »
i leave my chooks to range in the garden whilst i go to work, they do have a temporary chicken wire run, but tend to escape at any given opportunity by flying on top of the coop and jumping over the fence, so i don't have  choice YET! ::) It started to ain whilst i was still at work and i thought they would ae retreated into the coop, but they are still happily pecking around the garden and wrecking my flower beds as usual (no flowers, didn'tplant any)!

Does anyone else have chooks that love the rain? I think i may have to fetch them in nd hairdryer them b4 they go to bed, im worried they will get cold with being damp!
love my chickens me! :-)

All six of my chooks still love to forage whilst getting completely soaked, they do look quite funny once they are soaked through, although trying to dry them off always provides much more entertainment  :D

Mine are still to experience rain, so hopefully they can have a shower at the weekend,  no doubt the white one which is now grey from her dustbaths will go and have another dustbath when she is wet and look lovely and muddy after. I await with interest. Something else to amuse me in their behaviour.

Far from it, the last little shower we had they all legged it straight under the hedge.
You`d think they were made of sugar. :)

Mine wander about in light rain.  Five of the six girls seem to be fairly waterproof, but #6 gets soaked to the skin.  ::)

In heavy rain they all go and stand under the carport, leaving ample evidence of their presence.

Something new for the first time yesterday: FOG!  You would think the sky was falling!  They refused to come out of their coop, and just stood in silence with their necks stretched, staring.  They came out later in the day when the fog had cleared.

After twice getting happily soaked to the skin and spending what were probably cold and uncomfortable nights (they were still damp next morning) our three now return to shelter before they get too wet.

Mine love the rain also, they will not go inside. The only thing that seems to bother them is hail (understandably) and snow. Every time we have snow it's hilarious. They come bombing out of the hatch and skid to a stop, then they all try and find somewhere with no snow to stand - 30 hens trying to stand in their dust bath. Brilliant
