We've gone with PJs and Rockets, but they only went into trays to chit at the weekend.

Have we left it to late?

Assuming you'll be planting them in a week or so they won't have chitted much, but you'll gain more from planting on time than you'll lose by not having much in the way of chits.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

JayG - Once you can see the eyes starting to chit it means that their dormancy is broken. That is the important part of chitting. Once that is apparent they can be planted and will grow as soon as the soil warms up.

I'm doing Epicure, Elgar and Pentland Crown.  As I've never grown potatoes before I'm not going on any previous experience - I was quite motivated by that program on 'real food' on the telly the other night, but then I ended up getting what was available at my local garden centre!

Just checking today and the Rocket tuber that I chitted in a pot of compost and planted out on 9th February is poking through the surface.

A few weeks earthing up required, but an interesting experiment to see how early I can dig my own earlies. This tuber was started off at the same time as the rest so I`m keen to see how far ahead of the others it is.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

Flowers are now visible on this plant. :)

Nice one!

I reckon all the outside earlies will be early this year, with all this nice weather (unless we have a bad late frost )
