hi, i have just been given a roll of geotextile membrane, is it possible to plant my cabbage ect through it to save on weeding. regards archie

Assuming that it is permeable to water, I'd say yes that should be fine.  Make sure you firm the plant properly when planting.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

some people feed plants by hoeing in fertilisers through the growing season -- won't the membrane stop you doing this ?????

i thought  if i put some manure on the ground first then feed with a liquid feed this will make the growing helpfull

I use this stuff a lot - I tend to just mix up some growmore or chicken pellets in water and water thru the fabric and it seems to work for me. You could even just scatter on top of the fabric and let the rain wash it thru slowly.

I do that for our hedges which have weed membrane. The granules tend to run into the folds in the fabric, so not evenly distributed, and if the fabric flaps in the wind the granules get flung off! I put the fertilizer granules down just as it starts to rain, so generally they are immediately washed into the ground.

Not ideal though.
