Hi there, four of my Welsummers are moulting, the fifth has hatched 9 out of ten chicks (all doing well).  I was wondering how long will the moult last and how soon after they finish will they produce eggs again please.

It will be variable, dependant on breed, weather coditions, their condition and the regime that you keep them under.

As Bodger says - no hard and fast rules.

My black hen has been moulting for about 4 weeks now but has not stopped laying, but has cut down to about 4 eggs a week.

Thanks for that.  I will just keep checking for eggs then.  I haven't had any for almost 3 weeks now and they look a bit of a state.
