Earlies going cheap
« on: April 20, 2011, 00:36 »
Just a quick question....
T&M have 20 Vales Emerald (new potato) tubers for £1.00 (max 20 lots per customer)
Are they a rubbish type or is it too late to plant earlies now so they're getting shot of them quick to unsuspecting growers?

i wouldn't say it's too late to plant earlies, but how much is the P&P? at £1 they may be a bargain but not if you have to pay alot for delivery

just had a look and postage is £4.45  i didn't pay that for any of my seed potatoes, so i personally wouldn't bother unless you are already placing an order for something else

Have a look at Wilkinsons if you have one...they have some spuds left in mine...not sure of the variety though.

I suspect that almost every garden centre will soon have seed potatoes going cheap. Even if they are getting a bit sprouted and wrinkled they will grow OK.

Just do not expect earlies ready in June. They should have been in a month ago.
