Tomatoes from Seed
« on: April 17, 2011, 19:14 »
This is my 1st year growing my toms from seed rather than buying the baby plants at the garden centre.

I sowed the seed on the 9 April so they are now a week old.

They have been sitting in a warm sunny window sill with tin foil behind them but I'm sure they are still looking leggy!

Should I pot them on now and if so what is the best size pot?
Do I plant them deeply, as in nearly up to their leaves?

They are my favourite baby grape sized toms so I really want them to do well  :D

Snappy

No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch.

I could give up chocolate but I'm not a quitter.

They look fine to me  ;)
pot them into 3in pots, plant them a tad deeper if you like, but I wouldn't go as deep as seed leaves yet, although you can do that when they are bigger.

I tend no to pot mine on until they have some true leaves - probably about 4.

Phew....thank you both... I'll leave them a little longer then  :)

I assume now they have germinated they will continue to be happy to sit in the warmth of the window sill? It does get very warm there 1st thing in the morning  ???

Move them out of the sun if it's very hot and make sure the don't dry out.

They're fine!

Just re-pot them up to about an inch from the seed leaves, and they'll flourish!

I love seeing pics like yours - just another sign of the Good Life!
