I finally got around to making my butter today! I've done it years ago by mistake by over beating the cream, but this was my first proper attempt! We went into the Cash and Carry yesterday, and they had a 4 pint carton of fresh double cream for £1.50, so I thought right, let's have a go!
Blimey, when you said once it starts to go it goes quickly, is an understatement! Put it in my Kenwood with the K beater. Seemed to take ages, so I helped it a little bit with my hand blender. Put the kenwood back on, turned round to the sink and Brian yelled, its gone! And there it was, 2.25lbs of lovely yellow butter swimming around in the buttermilk!
As you said, I washed it in 6 lots of very cold water, and I slightly salted 2 bits which will go in the fridge and the other 3 bits in the freezer.
Now, apart from drinking it, or putting it in soup, what can I do with the buttermilk?
