Hi All

Ok i will get straight to the point are anyone elses girls laying later than normal ??
as my girls have all started to lay late over the past few weeks one of them (Lucy Legbar) has today laid her egg at 16:25! i was on holiday today and have spent the day with my broody and her new clutch so was able to watch what time they all went to lay and OH has reported eggs at later stages in the day compaired with just two weeks ago

Or are my hens plotting a new night laying regiem

mine have always laid at all times of the day and sometimes overnight.

My girls have all laid before lunch in the past so was wondering why they have started to get later

It must be the clocks going forward!! The chooks don't know that humans mess about with the time, so if they laid at 4pm on Saturday (and seemingly they lay an hour later every day) it would be 6pm on Sunday but really 5pm to them. I think

Like joyful said they can lay whenever they are ready. I've noticed one of mine will lay during the day at one point and I can go up to put them away another day and find her sitting in the nest box.

On average a typical chicken ovulates every 25hrs, but that doesn't mean any given chicken will lay every 25hrs it's just an average.  A commercial hybrid will typically lay an egg 24 times every 25 days!  You might expect from this that a chicken lays an egg 1 hr later each day though in fact it's not as regular as this they do tend to lay later each day within a cycle.  So nothing unusual in what you are seeing it's just that you haven't noticed it up to now.
