New Potatoes
« on: March 31, 2011, 13:21 »
This is my second season of growing new spuds in 'bags'. Have chitted them and are now under their first layer of compost. Probably a bit late now, but should I have removed any 'shoots' leaving one or two on each potato or does leaving them all on not really matter?

I don't think it makes any difference for new pots. I think they're removed on later spuds if you want big ones for jackets   but I've never bothered :)

If you have more shoots you will get more, smaller, spuds - which is generally about right for New Potatoes. I haven't had seed potatoes with more than about 5 "eyes" and they seem to do OK. Might need to leave them a bit longer to fatten up from pea-nut of egg size if the original seed tubers had lots of shoots :)
