I potted up carrots yesterday and put in the greenhouse/cold frame My daughter was cleaning out the ferrets so they where out having their usual run round and getting mischievous as the carrots where on the bottom of the cold frame this was an invitation for them to crawl in the gap and have fun with the seed tubes I had in there I decided it would not be safe to leave the remainder in there so I have tipped the tubes onto the raised bed and gently racked and watered will they be OK or should I cover with polythene sheet.

Carrots usually grow perfectly well in the open so I can't think why you might need a polythene sheet..

Was thinking frost protection that's all and act like a clotch to encourage germination but if I don't need to support the germination process then that's better for me

Polythene covering would help warm the soil perhaps.  

Frost should not be a problem with carrots.
