My friend told me that you can't water your plants with rainwater that's been collected from a felted shed roof or any felted roof for that matter as theres some toxin in the roof felt that will end up in the water.  Does anyone know anything about this or is this untrue??

                   Cheers.

Not heard it myself - a lot of people have rainwater butts on their sheds and still appear to be alive to tell the tale  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I've got a water butt and a 250 gallon IBC tank attached to my big brooder shed with felt roof.  The water is used for my greenhouse and polytunnel.

How long have you used the water on plants, years??  Me thinks there might not be much truth in this rumour then.

Plants will grow ON and through a felt roof if you do not keep them clean.
You may get a bit of oily run off from new felt or onduline in hot weather but it should be easy to skim it off.

We've had this particular shed up for 5-6 years!  And 3 years ago the water from the roof waterd my 200 tomato plants and everything else in the polytunnel!
