can you leave spuds in ground after foliage has died off? how long??

Until about Apr/May which is when they'll want to start growing again.  If your ground waterlogs though, I'd suggest you lift them before the winter sets in.

What about if you had blight? The old hand next door said to cut the foliage off and leave for a couple of weeks but I've been on hols since then and now I'm back its rainning.

When we were hit with blight most of the potatoes were rotten so I would dig them up and make sure not to miss any.

Thanks, managed to get down the allotment yesterday and get my second earlies up. They all look fine (except for the dozens my little boy managed to skewer on his fork!) but it may be a few days before I can get to the lates.
