Aggressive gander tips please?
« on: March 21, 2011, 18:38 »
I don't know how many peeps keep geese on here but i'm looking for a few tips please?

I've raised Brendan & Mary from Goslings. Plus I had a paired ganders before these two aswell.

Brendan adores me - I'm mommy. I can pick him up, anything. Gently fusses my hair etc. Mary is a bit offhandish but doesn't like to be fussed. She's not aggressive at all though.

Brendan on the other hand is like a lunatic with other people. He hates them. When he see's my husband it's war (unless he's got some cucumber, then he stops biting for the cucumber, eats it, then has another pop! lol). The bruises on my husband are getting beyond a joke & becoming very painful.

I've tried holding him whenever hubby is around in the garden but the sneaky little sod stretches his neck & manages to bite him if i'm not quick enough.

I've told martin to hold him down on the floor to try & dominate him, to try holding him tightly, not to run from him, back off slowly. All the tricks & nothing is working.

Will he settle when the breeding season is over.

He's only been like it since him & Mary started "getting romantic" & she's been laying. I'm hoping it's just hormonal but it's very wearing. Everytime my hubby wants to go to his shed. Plus the girls have to go without their porridge when i'm at work.

He's a great watch though! Beats my german shepherd hands down.

I knew one like that, he would eat the apple core you gave him and then attack. :)
I tried holding him firmly by the neck and giving him a good talking too several times, he would back off but 5 minutes later he would sneak back for another go. :)
Tell hubby to wear a cricket box just in case. :)

Is it possible that Brendan sees hubby as competition?

Now he's discovered *romance* he might think that his mum is exclusively his, although I thought geese were monogamous, but they can be VERY possessive.

Maybe hubby needs to get that cricket box sooner rather than later ...  :D
