I have a Bovan Goldline 'Bossy Boots', she is 31 weeks old and has been laying since I got her at 20 weeks. About three weeks ago she laid two eggs at once, both soft shelled. One had a yolk and the other just the white. No egg the next day but the day after two soft shelled eggs again with and without yolk. I fed her cod liver oil on a small amount of bread to help with the calcium absorbsion and that seemed to work for two weeks then she laid two 96g eggs over three days. Both were double yolkers. That was last week and this week on Monday she laid one soft shelled egg with a single yolk. Tuesday a normal egg which was large 88g, Wednesday two soft shelled eggs, one with a double yolk, the other no yolk. No egg yesterday and two soft shelled eggs this morning, again one with and one without yolk. I will try to attach photos.
My hens are fed on layers pellets, they have oyster shell grit, vegetable scraps but not too many and small amount of cut maize. I also cook and crush the used eggs shells which they love but only have two laying as my 4 Blackrocks are 23 weeks old and not laying yet. They have a large enclosure to scrat about in and love to pinch worms and grubs when the gardening is being done. The other Bovan Goldline I have 'Mother Hen' has laid consistently normal eggs from day one. The only difference between them is that BB is the greadiest of them all, she is second in the pecking order to MH. She is fit and well in her self but she does seem to be a bit bemused as she keeps going in the nesting box as if she knows she is supposed to be laying. Most of the soft laid eggs have been from the roost rail first thing in the morning but one was in the nest box.
I think it could be hormonal and should settle down as she matures but would appreciate any advice from the forum.
