I do it every year and have done so for a long time with no problems.By the time the compost heap is emptied into the bean trench or whatever next year it has mixed in with everything else.

The other thing I used a lot for is to almost fill an old barrel, then I top up with something else like fresh compost and the carrots love it. Old compost was a very cheal (free) way to fill the barrel.

Not much room in my compost bin, so it just goes straight onto the soil as conditioner.

It really doesn't need to go through the compost process  :)

I was going to say, why compost compost?!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I dig it in to try to raise the level of the soil in our beds, as well as to break up the clay in some and give guts to the sandy ones  :D

thanks all for the advice, as to why compost compost? simply because all the plot and raised beds are growing at the moment and the compost bin was the only room i had ::)
