Yes I noticed that, sorry I missed it off my post. But maybe TheOnlyGothInTheVillage can club together with a friend or neighbour in the same situation and they can share the cost of the items?

Well, finally found some, Asda have just uploaded thir gardening section to their shopping website and this year their offering a better quality (hopefully, its a lot better than their smartprice compost which went green & funny) compost at £2 for 20l bag, and its on offer for 3 bags for £4, so if anyone else lives in a rural location without transport, asdas the best place to shop online for compost, I can start off some seeds now, Yay!!

From what i have read on here I gather some seeds dont seem to germinate well in just MP compost

I spotted some baggies in my local garden centre today, labelled as 'composted soil' at 59.99 a time. Not quite sure what that means, but it looked and felt georgeous black crumbly stuff, though there was quite a lot of heat in it it, which I assume means it's still rotting down. I was tempted though, not sure about sowing seeds in it with so much heat (though certainly it was fine enough, finer than GP compost) but it would do wonders for my soil. I do wish there was an easy way to make a price comparison between a baggie and a normal 60 or 70L bag, because without that I'm just not sure whether it's a cost effective way of buying it.

If a "baggie" is a tonne (as it is from Dandy's) then 70litres @£6 means you'd have to pay around £85 for 14 bags... so unless you get a good three for two deal at a garden centre it might be as well to  have a big bulk bag delivered. Hope you can work it out...
