Taro / Eddoes?
« on: February 23, 2011, 22:36 »
Just seen Taro being used on Masterchef - starchy vegetable from the Far East - and wondered if it can be grown here. Did a quick search & found that Eddoes are similar & grow in cooler climates.I've never tried these but I've seen them in a supermarket. Anybody tried growing either?

I was looking at one of the taro varieties and reading materials from net. They say taro needs atleast 200 frost free days to get any sort of yield. taro's can be grown ornamental for its leaves and the leaves are edible (rolled pancake) aswell.
Remember you have to cook tubers properly (or know how to cook it) to make it palatable. otherwise they produce itchy throat for a day or two  :)
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...
