Planning ahead for gaps
« on: February 23, 2011, 17:30 »
Been inspecting the non veg bit of the garden and reckon I might have lost some stuff with the snow.

Have bought a lot of starter herbaceous and grabbing stuff out of bargain sections - some from work and some from the garden centre down the road where I live and have been potting up this afternoon into 2L pots.  For around £30 I now have 25 2L pots in the greenhouse and coldframe to grow on for gap filling including 2 bargain peonies.  Given that 2L herbaceous is about £6.99 a pop or more I'm now feeling pretty smug  :D

I also came home with 50 red onion sets which are now in cell trays to get going - well couldn't have a totally veg free day  ;)

Staff discount is a wonderful thing  ;)  Trouble is you convince yourself it's a bargain so you just have to have it and spend all your wages

We don't do 9cm starter herbaceous at my place, but seen it at Country Gardens and Wyevale.  £1.99 a pot or 6 for £10 - not bad and it looks like it comes from Hawkesmill who are a very good supplier and do a really good range   :D  Worth a go if you want stuff to fill in - will root through to a 2L in a few weeks  ;)
