I planted 2 crowns last year and I think they have been buried under too much soil when we have been turning over, I have tried to dig down to find the plant but cant. Will it eventually come through deep soil?

It's fairly tough so I wouldn't give up hope yet.  If nothing in, say, a month or so, I'd say that you probably planted them too deep.
