We are hoping to get some hens this spring for the allotment.  My OH wonders that if we get youngsters (about 8 weeks old), they will get used to us quicker and be more friendly.  Is this correct?  Also what care will 8 week old chicks require, can they go outside in a coop and large run, or do they still require specialist care?

if you have never kept chickens before I would suggest you get point of lays (17 weeks onwards) this way you can be sure they will be hens and they should start laying fairly soon. All chickens are governed by their love of food so a few treats everyday (mixed corn, sweetcorn, mealworms etc - not too much though) and they will soon get used to you.
