Mixed hatching
« on: February 18, 2011, 16:54 »
Is it posible to do a mixed hatch? I ordered eggs off ebay they never arrived, I bought some eggs off a freind on Sunday set them on Monday, But the seller of 1 lot of ebay eggs has sent me some more that have just been delivered.
I dont have another incy so is it possible to do a mixed date hatch?

The problem will arise that you will have to stop turning the first batch and turn up the humidity before the second batch is ready for that.

There may be a way around it but I dont know it and im sure someone will let us know if there is! :D

I only turned mine on yesterday which is a pain!  Could of posted them down and I would have stuck them in for you.

Put a post up quick in the swap shop section swapping a couple of the chicks for the incubation time perhaps?

I know my incubator is a bit bigger than some, but it has 3 trays and in the instruction booklet it tells you to fill one tray up, then 6 days later fill the next one and 6 days after that, the third tray.  I've only done it once, but had a good result.  the first lot of eggs went down to the hatching basket at 18 days, and another lot of eggs in the first tray.  so I had eggs hatching from the same place over 4 weeks.  I've had some dead in shell, but not many out of 264 eggs.

So if you can't get anyone to do it, put them in and try it.  You never know!!!

I'm the same, but with six trays, I usually fill 2 up at a time, and putting into the hatching basket at the bottom, I never alter the humidity and have also had good results.

If you have a smaller incubator that does not have hatching baskets you could stop the automatic turner  when the first lot are due and use it as a manual incubator turning the other eggs for the remaining time. (that's if it's automatic and you don't have too many eggs)

Give it a go Hayley!  Put the seperators in and manually turn your other eggs once the auto turn is off.  Better than throwing them away!!
