I'm just reading a site about this topic, that suggests that fruiting plants are good to grow tomorrow on the full moon. I was going to sow chilli's this week, as i usually aim for mid feb... tomorrow it is then!

Edit:
The website i got multicell trays from was here:
http://www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk/acatalog/Multi-Cell_Plant_Trays.html

Though I think the website you mean, who do them in massive numbers like moles are here:
http://www.plantcell.co.uk/cell_packs.html

Or you could make paper pots to save money? I love using nifty ways of getting around costs- like using fine net curtains instead of enviromesh?    :D

Funnily enough I have just responded at the same time to Yorkie who suggested net curtain, clever chap that he his, as I had never thought of that. Although I might invest in a small piece of Enviromesh - will have to do a cost comparison over ten years I think which is how long it lasts apparently, if you look after it.

Will look at those cell trays - thanks for links.

Sorry Yorkie - I bow to your superior knowledge and thank you for your assistance! BTW I quoted you to some poor chap on here who needed advice on his carrot growing to avoid carrot fly. Told him you were very helpful to me. He was getting it in the neck a bit over wanting to use net curtain as V enviromesh, which not everybody can or wants to shell out on. I hope he contacted the Carrot God!

xxx :D

  Did I really suggest that?  My mind is soooo forgetful

Happy to be called a carrot god but I should perhaps confess to only having grown them twice - first year they were unprotected and got carrot fly, the second year they didn't germinate!!  Perhaps better luck this year  ::)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Well I really valued your advice, thank you and we all learn by our mistakes - that's how you gain the knowledge.
I am hoping for great things with my carrots this year and if I do it's down to you! ;)

I think we're all still learning about it. I remember some of the older farmers round my way when i was a kid talking about it, they seemed to really value the method, and give it a lot of weight, but sadly they aren't around anymore to ask :(
Certainly they would look at the moon phases, but perhaps not in the same detail as that site, which seems to incorporate more than the moon.

I remember as a kid seeing old gardening almanacs we had floating about the house, printed in the 60s and 70s with the moon phases all mapped out on them. It seemed to go hand in hand with a kind of 'husbandry' approach to the land, using organic methods etc, and using natural pest deterrants and permaculture. I think someone called it a 'holistic' approach earlier, which makes sense... to me anyway.
The methods were used for 1000s of years, going back to ancient Egyptians, and it died out in the last few decades, along with a lot of things!!!

No harm backtracking to see if we might have thrown away something valuable amongst all the recent 'progress'?

I'll look forward to hearing your results, I've heard about it for many a year. never tried it but then I'm no way organised enough to.
Refreshing to see people trying different approaches to their gardening.

I have known about this for some years now but im always rushing around going to give it a go this year will keep you posted.. Here's some info...

Really helpful links Suze. Have just missed a full moon this week? Is it too late to sow onions? I have mine sown already but could always do with a few more! Too late?
I had heard of this before but not tried it though i found it intriguing.
So many practices that were done by ancient cultures that had never met , never mind communicated with each other to share ideas- funny how they all ended up observing the same traditions in growing, like lunar planting. And those Egyptians had a remarkable strong insight into the skies and their movements before telescopes were invented!

I agree about its good to try things to see if we've lost something valuable. A lot of people i know are practicing things like permaculture which are full of very logical and sound ways of treating everything as being enviromentally dependent and connected. I guess it's how far into the environment you want to look for a connection?
I'll watch this thread with interest!
