Bees are kept on our allotments.
In my eyes there are absolutely no negatives from having them. Without any bees, the produce would be massivly reduced, and with the addition of them, all things flowering are at a huge advantage.
They are simple to direct away from the site and i have not noticed a huge amount of bees everywhere. If kept properly and responsibly, they would hardly be noticed at all.

Thanks everyone!  We have ninety plots on our allotment - so I think I'll have a discussion with the lady that runs the allotment association.  I know nothing about keeping bees, but it sure seems like a feasable idea.  Maybe a pig . . . . .  Now THAT'S another subject!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Hah our association secretary was asked about a pig (nope) and geese (nope). I wonder what he'd say to bees. Must ask.

No bees on our although the council are trying to encourage plot holders to start. We are only allowed hens (no cocks) and bees on our plots. One of the lads is thinking about it and was going to investigate the why and where for's of it, I believe you can now get grants for them, don't really know owt about that, and I heard its a bit pricey to start off.

If your on a Council run allotment in Norwich they now allow bees under the new rules ( to be published in march ) but you have to go through so much dodo to do it(training, insurence) that it doesnt seem to worth the trouble.
