I'v done the same,I was told get them in asap not if the ground is fozen of coarse, as they need a spell of cold. I forked some blood fish and bone in first and am now awaiting the results . Hope this helps as I am still learning myself and there are lots of good advice on this site.

cheers and good luck

Can I just say, "Flat end down, pointy end up"

......I planted all mine the wrong way round before Christmas and had to spend an embarrasing hour turning them the right way again!  ::)

They are all alright now, couple of inches tall in the greenhouse so I'll be putting mine out soon as well
Thinking of calling my shed "the Dun Inn".

Can I rob some from the kitchen & plant that or does it need to be a specific variety for the UK....most I buy for cooking is Spanish.

Get a UK variety.  Ones from other countries are not best suited to our climate.  Many people replant their own though, so you may only need to make the investment once.

However, its getting late to be planting Winter Garlic, so you may only find Spring Garlic available now (and even if you find Winter garlic it needs a period of proper cold weather to get it to "clove up", so may not do a proper job unless we get some more cold weather.

P.S. Dunno if you can bung it in Fridge or Freezer to force it to "clove up" ??

winter garlic loves the cold - mine went in last November and were buried under a foot of snow for weeks with the ground rock solid. They all survived and are now 8" tall  :)

Not so sure about spring garlic

I feel it is a little early to plant spring garlic, even for "down south". Late February into March would be better than right now.
