Vaccination & what age to start worming?
« on: August 07, 2007, 22:49 »
Hi everybody, My son's chicks-well, actually I've got rather more attached to them than he has & could quite happily spend hours sitting with them-are now 7 weeks old, growing well (in my uneducated opinion) and eating plenty (growers pellets, grit and green treats-cabbage etc.)  They live in a wire greyhound cage at present in a barn & no contact with other birds.  I let them out for a short time each day when i clean them and in a couple of weeks they will be moving to the garden to an enclosed run with coop.  They are not vaccinated.  Is the vet the right person to do this?  Also, when should I start worming them-just about to order Flubenvet but don't want to kill them!  Any info/advice appreciated-have read the stickies but couldn't find these answers.

Thanks Muntjac, will get on with the worming (not tonight, obviously!)-just found PJM's post on this subject, so sorry to repeat topic.  What you say about vaccination is interesting-think I'd cause more stress packing them in a box to take to vet, than the risk of salmonella-assume that's what they're mainly protected against.  If I cover their run to prevent wild bird droppings and keep them clean, disinfect coop regularly, should reduce risk?
