I reckon it already did but have edited it to avoid all doubt.

I don't know if lime comes in big bags in Greece.  You can buy it in anything from 3kg bags to 25000kg truck loads here.

If I limed a plot for brassicas one year, could I grow potatoes on it the year after, or do I have to wait longer for the lime to degenerate.? :?

I tend to lime after potatoes rather than before brassicas (if that makes sense).

Depending on your rotation, this means that the lime has 18 to 30 months before potatoes go in again (2 winters or 3).

You can use it like bigsprouts says but it's more caustic and liable to burn the skin, than agricultural lime, also hydrated lime reacts quicker to alter the pH of the soil.

Thanks for that BS & RR but I'll stick with agricultural lime since I reckon hydrated lime would kill earthworms.

i looked at the b&q web site to day and they do  a 3 kilo bag so if i sacrifice my usual half ton of cheese then i can squeeze one in my case just to be on the safe side .

Hi Chrissie - you seem to have started two or three separate threads on this same question.  Not sure if you saw this reply http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?p=83606#83606
