Manure

Would chicken manure mixed  ( approx  12 mths oid) with wood shavings be ok to dig into the veg. patch?
Dogs were born with three legs and a spare.

Bit of a strange one,  Chicken manure is very strong and can burn plants it is in contact with.  Wood shavings rob the soil of nitrogen in the process of rotting down that growing plants need in order to grow.  Do you have a small corner you could put your concoction and wait a year or two? Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Or can you throw the whole concoction into a barrell of water and use the resulting "tea" to water the veg?

Is just the chicken manure 12 months old or both manure and wood shavings?

If it's the latter I'd say dig it in as long as the wood shavings are no longer recognizable as such. As Tony says, they use up nitrogen as they decompose so need to be well-composted.

If you have other compost available then you could layer this up with small layers of the chicken poo/ shavings. It would act as a compost activator and help speed up the compost process as well as diluting the "too powerful" chicken poo into something that should be more useful.

Surely it makes no odds as chicken poo is rich in nitrogen & would balance any so called robbery.
