I've had one chicken for three years now whose comb couldn't be redder yet he's never laid one egg

You're obviously sharp eyed Tomshooter so perhaps you can help me spot what hapened to my change at the feed merchants the other day.

I went to the feed merchants with a couple of pals of mine to buy some layers.  The place is run by a chap I know quite well who always gives me some discount.  However he didn't serve us and our three bags came to £30 and we each handed over £10 to the assistant.  (Must have been that expensive Garvo or A&P stuff Joyfull recommends.)  Just as the assistant was putting the money in the till the manager came in and out of earshot from us said to the assistant that he knew me and to give us £5 discount. However I suspect the assistant who wasn't too hot on arithmetic decided it was easier to give us each a £1 change, "complements of the manager", and pocketed the remaining £2 of the £5 discount.

Afterwards when I discovered what the manager had said I was trying to work our what had happened to our money.  We have each paid £9 which was £27 in total and the assistant had pocketed £2, which makes £29 but we had originally paid £30!  So what happened to the missing £1 from our original £30?

well you say you got £5 discount so if the assistant hadnt taken the £2 you should have paid £8.66/or £8.67 each, which would have made the 3 orders come to £25, but because he pocketed it you only got a £3 discount between you instead of £5

Yes but the question was what happened to the missing £1 from the original £30 we paid?  Where did my arithmetic go wrong?
