I have a large polycarbonate cold frame and as my potato seeds arrived today I am thinking of putting 5 in the cold frame which is compost based.

Has anyone planted this early in a greenhouse or cold frame and what happened ?

I've planted in pots in February in the greenhouse, made a lot of haulm and few spuds.

Like DD I've planted them in containers in Feb in the greenhouse and got a decent crop of first earlies by the end of May. You might be pushing it this early if we get some more hard frosts.

Unless you can get the soil warm they will not grow. When they grow you will need to keep the tops frost free.

Better to set them up to chit, which starts their life cycle, and plant just a bit early.

The peat based compost in my frame was not cold at all at 9am whilst everything around my plot was covered in frost as it went minus 3 last night, worth a go as it's only a couple of spud seeds.
