You are right, they are the most easily freaked of my ladies, but one of them (Betty) would jump up onto my knee when I would sit out in the summer with them (at the start I could sit out for 2-3 hours staring at them - not a bit of wonder they freak out!!!) and stare into my face before pecking at a stray hair on my head and sending me into work the next day with a nipped ear etc.  Have to say though that chickens are the funniest creatures and even if they never layed me a single egg I love them for their pure entertainment!  Also, the brown leghorns are so beautifully coloured for having such a dull name.
