Egg Size, Should I Be Worried?
« on: December 20, 2010, 18:52 »

These are the size eggs we get off our five chooks, But...

See the weeny small one?....

It's perfectly formed, just absolutely TINY!!

Should I be worried about which chook laid it, or is it because of the shear cold we're having at the moment?? They're fed well (pellets, corn etc), and get treats every so often, (sorry, just more often at mo with the cold).

Hi Goldfinger, I am not sure what the answer is, but I know that the oracles on this site will probably ask what kind of chickens you have and what age approx they are.  I would think that if they are eating and drinking and seem fine in themselves that there is probably not much to worry about.  I shall keep my fingers crossed and wait to see what others think.  Good luck. ;)

We have x1 goldline, x1 light sussex, x1 bovine blacktail, x1 border blue and x1 rhode rock.

We got them, I think if mind serves me, in June this year. I can find any mites on any of them, They're wormed regularly and....

That's all I can think of saying at the moment.

I wouldn't worry too much, just occasionally hens throw out an odd egg. Keep an eye on them just to make sure all is well.

Nothing to worry about it looks like the small egg is what is known as a wind egg (also known as witches egg, practice egg, and fart egg), usually they contain just the white but you may be lucky and find a little tiny yolk.
Staffies are softer than you think.

We laughed ourselves silly when our chicks started to lay eggs that size.  Thought they were fart eggs but they were perfect and are still not much bigger.  Normal sized yolk and very little white. Still laugh when I fry them, Yum Yum.
