I think my wormery copped it in the last couple of weeks - we had about 18 inches of snow that lay for ages, and I think it wasn't the cold that killed the worms, but the melting snow has dribbled in and drowned them.

The contents are so wet that I haven't yet been able to get a proper look inside, but I'm pretty certain the worms have all drowned.

As an animal-loving vegetarian, I find this very upsetting!  Clearly they needed better protection from the elements.

Oh sorry to hear about your worms, metalkitten!

I have a tap on the bottom of my worm bin, and I leave it open all the time.  On the few occasions when I have had it closed, inevitably it rains and the contents get all soggy and nasty.  Constant drainage is the key!

Worms can live for a few days completely underwater but do not fare as well in frosty conditions.
Get the wormery drained ASAP they may still be ok.

I do leave the tap open, but it had frozen solid so nothing could drain out.

I've now drained it as best I can, so will see what happens, but it doesn't look good.
