one of my hens kind of began to moult about 3 weeks ago, and has a bald patch on her neck.  She has the new feathers that are there, but they are not actually proper feathers-just stubs still if you know what I mean, they have been there for about 2 weeks.  What do you think is going on? thanks xx

Its a bit like growing a beard, it takes time and irritates the grower.
The quill sheaths are normal and will be preened off..............eventually.

so her bald patch will grow feathers back?  she hasnt moulted yet, and is 8 months old x

at that age she will be having a partial moult and yes they can look like delinquent teenages who are trying to grow their first beard - very patchy
