:D now that's a fantastic idea!  My plot marker needs touching up but I could print a new one instead and make it a bit more fancy, laminate and staple it on the wood.  I'm liking this idea more and more!  Thank you

i don't label things on the plot, is that just me?

i label any seeds i start off at home, but once stuff get put in the plot i know what it is, even when i sow seeds at the plot i just tend to put a cane in to mark the rows but don't label it

oh what a good idea, I dont have a printer but I could laminate some plain paper, hot glue gun that onto sticks/canes then use waterproof marker pen(s) on the laminated surface.
I assume nail polish remover would remove the old ink so I could reuse...
I think its best to avoid puncturing the laminated pouch or moisture can creep in - as found out the hard way on an art project back in my school days!

I know it's not free but, how about buying a small bag of ready mixed cement.
Then fill 3 or 4 inch pots with it and once it's gone off turn out and paint white.
Then paint on a number in any colour you want (not white) and you'll have a marker that won't blow away and will last a long long time.
Not free but very cheap and durable.

agh mu laminator just chewed up the plastic pouch and burnt it - now my house stinks of melted plastic - not a good start to the day.

Might try the cement pots stompy, off to experiment now - right pc going off, I am going out in the sunshine!

I  thought that if you make a 2 piece mould of various veg , carrot ,onion, tater, beet, leek etc you could cast them in concrete then paint in appropriate colours. One each end of the row and 'jobs a good`un'.
There must be a gap in the market for a cheap blow moulded plastic (recycled of course) version with a hole through the centre for a securing cane.
Some could even be used as slug bait stations.

Anyone in the plastics industry interested ?

I have a number of short (18") lengths of tilting lath with numbers painted on, the key is in the greenhouse and on the PC.

I used little plastic markers one year - Im still finding bits of them now.  :(

That is a really good idea Lardman - I lost my plastic markers one year -the birds pulled them all out for some reason.

Ps - like your new strapline  ::)

OK, so who nicked my plastic row markers?
