« on: October 26, 2010, 09:40 »
Hi all, my 3 hens are in there run which has a cover to keep them dry, should I let them out in the cold and wet or will they be ok in there run. Dont think my hens like the rain. there run is at least 3.5 meters by 2.5 meters

Half my run is covered and dry and the other half open to the elements. The hens spend most of their time where it's open especially when its raining and wet. I assume because the rain attracts the worms to the surface. So I would say let them have the option to go where they want and if they don't like it when its raining they can stay under cover.

Hi I asked the same question as the breeder I had my hybrids from said to keep them from getting wet , having read all the responses I had when I asked the question I made the decision to let the girls decide, having said that if its getting close to bed time and its wet I bring them in, I just hate the thought of them going to bed wet and cold  ::) ::)

hope that helps

My girls have a covered run, and when the weather is grotty (like today) they tend to spend most of their time inside, but saying that, they do and can venture outside into the garden when they feel like it, as I leave the door to their run open until they take themselves off to bed of an evening.

If they don't like getting wet they will take shelter.  Just make sure there is food and water available in their run.
