Hi

I live in the area and have too had trouble finding a vet.  The vet I take the dog too wont give out prescriptions even if you know what you need.  It is definitely a good idea to find a good vet first as I've only had my chickens 4 week and lost 3 out of the 4 already.  They were ill when we got them, you could say they were rescue.  I was thinking of trying Thornbury Animal Sanctuary as they take in farm animals so may know of a vet.  If I do manage to find any vets in the area I will let you know.

Chesterfield is not far from you and Chapel House Vets has a good poultry vet, if you can't find one nearer
