Mr Rat
« on: October 11, 2010, 23:59 »
Made the mistake when building the run of not burying weldmesh on one side, it was only 5" from an existing fence so just laid the mesh on the surface between the two. Yep that's the side Mr Rat found his way in.  :tongue2:
Spied him helping himself to the chooks grain last week, I knew I couldn't rectify immediatley, so bought myself a couple of snaptraps, made a couple of covers/tunnels and baited with a sausage and peanut butter suprise.
Managed to suprise!! a couple of mice but not Mr Rat, too smart, I even placed the traps either side of his entrance hole, nothing.
I set one of the traps off myself yesterday, while I cleaned the run and let the chooks out, when I glanced up, there he was bold as brass helping himself !
So today had to dig a trench and bury the weldmesh, knew I should of done it in the first place.
I've now placed the traps outside the run and decided to give the air rifle a clean.

They can climb as well, so might still get in over the top?  Make sure you remove all food at night or it's an open invitation.
I've got control over mine with a couple of Mk4 Fenn traps, which are great for the big ones.  Plus little packages of Eradibaite secreted all over the place.  And they are good at dealing with the smaller ones.
But it is a matter of control, you will never be completely free of them.
