Hello,

I'm planning on expanding my blueberry collection and want to move away from pots into direct garden planting. I have a clay/loam soil, so a touch alkaline - does anyone know if:

1. I could use a cheaper alternative to ericaceous compost e.g. would peat based compost do the trick/could I acidify my exisiting topsoil;
2. If I need to put up a barrier to prevent leaching between my 'imported' blueberry compost and the existing topsoil?

Any help very greatefully appreciated!

I am using Coffee grounds, pine needles and home made composed that has had allot of fruit in it. Blueberries are growing well in there first year planted out, but I have think my soil is slightly acidic already as the dominating weeds tend to be Sorrel, creeping buttercup and nettles which all favor acidic conditions, but never tested...

Thanks for the advice. From some other posts, it seems that they will put up with less acidic conditions, but wont crop as well. Will dig some pits and fill with compost and some acidic treats!
