hi folks,

Been reading up on comfrey. Would comfrey be considered invasive? I'm planning out the wilderness end of the lotty and wondered if comfrey should be planted in a raised bed to isolate it from the rest of the allotment. What do you think?

I'm thinking about fabricating a raised bed from dismembered pallets. the wood on these pallets is really thick, about an inch. They were used for transporting glass, the pallets appear stronger than the use once variety.
I think they'd make a good strong frame for a raised bed.

You can get a variety called (I think) Bocking 14 something like that and that is supposed to be not invasive in the way other varieties are.  but I am sure someone who actually grows it can tell you better!

It is not invasive provided you never try to dig it up or rotovate it.

Pallets are great for raised beds. Not spending any money is a big deal on our allotment site, even better if you can get stuff off the boss - pallets, wood and other useful things. Failing that - skips.

I have some in a flower boarder that I cut when it flowers(3 c/4 cuts a year) and some by the shed.With regular cutting neither is showing any signs of spreading.

I grow the Bocking 14 variety. They are grown from root cuttings and they haven't been invasive (so far!). I think their seeds are sterile so they don't self seed everywhere! Make sure you plant them where you're intending to keep them permanently ... cos their roots go down to Oz!
