Drat, bother and other swear words
« on: September 22, 2010, 18:54 »
I've just got back from a 2 week holiday in the US to find that I have lost all my hens, this years POL pullets and the quail.

All I have left (and thank goodness I have some left) are my 2 poots, 2 dottes, a pair of CB Marans chicks and my 2 mystery chicks - which are all my tree roosters.

I don't know the full story, as I haven't spoken to my neighbour yet, but I'm a fence board (horizontal) missing along my boundry, so they either escaped and didn't come back, or a predator has got into the garden via the missing board.

:(

The neighbour (presuming they were the chicken sitters) should be able to shed some light on it.  It was probably a big shock for them too.

A nasty thing to happen when you're on holiday  :(

I am so sorry to hear that you have lost so many of your birds.  My dogs occasionally see off one or other of my birds and I know how upsetting it is just to lose one at a time, let alone a whole flock.  It must seriously take the shine off your holiday too.  However, if it was a predator, surely it would have taken the whole lot?  Puzzling about your damaged fence too.  I suspect if your hen-sitter is French, that will be gallic shrug territory...

I'm really sorry to hear about your missing chooks.  I hope you manage to find out what's happened whilst you were away.  It's sickening when anything happens to your birds, especially when it's totally out of your hands.

Poor you  :(
