French beans on a tree?
« on: September 19, 2010, 08:31 »
Whilst walking down a road I noticed a lot of long pods on the pavement, just like French beans.
Funny, I thought.
Looking around I saw where they had come from - a large tree with loads of hanging pods, each one about 6 inches long.
So obviously not French beans, but can anyone tell me what the tree was?
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of with pods is laburnum, which is something to be avoided.

Problem is I wouldn't call them French bean like.

Whatever it is - steer clear!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I seen one like that it was a sweet pea tree literaly. sweet peas had gown into and around the tree and just kept polinating every year. I know cos i nicked the pods and waited and replanted the next year.

Nick some pods and dry out and try to grow some of yout own

We have a couple of "Catalpa" in the garden, and they have bean type fruit, also "Robinia" which is a false Acacia which does too..  Not sure how these grow in the UK though,

Thanks all. Mystery solved.
Some Googling on Indian Bean Tree got me to "blackbamboo.co.uk", which shows a pic of the beans hanging from the tree.
Interesting plant.
