Sorry for a realy silly question, but i keep seeing mishrrom compost advertisements? Is it just the same as normal compost? And what are the benefits os it other normal compost?

as far as i remember its actully peat compost it has a very different feel to it its very sort of leafy triggy straw like not so smooth like compost out of a bag. you can get kits with the spores already in there or buy the compost and spores seperate.

It's usually horse manure and straw, dosed with fertilisers and lime, in which mushrooms have been grown. We have a mushroom farm locally
So you get what's left........it's a great soil conditioner, but with not a lot of nutrients.
With the lime content it's no good for where spuds are going but good anywhere else

and if you are lucky you even get a crop of mushrooms, from left over spawn in the compost

would stress the previous warning about its lime content. Brassicas love it but potatoes will suffer. I have also found it might inhibit germination where seeds sown direct into soil after recent addition of Spent Mushroom Compost.
It really needs to be cheap to be worthwhile as nutrients very low and its conditioning effect whilst good does not last more than a couple of seasons. I often get it free as a thank you for help to someone else so good bulky material for me.
