Ill hen
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:35 »
My 2 year old hen Rosie is such a sweet natured little hen, but she is ill quite alot.. She usally recovers but she just sits hunched up most of the day. She is still eating and drinking and it happends every year but i'm just wondering if there are anyways of curing it faster than letting her body do it? We rescued her from a battery hen barn place so could this be why?
Thanks

besides sitting hunched up what other symptoms are there? Is she snotty?, bubbly eyed?, rattly chest?, poohing normally?, is she laying ok?, does she have a temperature?, is she moulting?, what is the condition of her comb? what is her crop like?, is she walking ok? when was she last wormed? have you checked for mites and lice? have you checked the coop for mites and lice?
Sorry for so many questions but without seeing her and not knowing your girl we would need more details to even guess at what could be ailing her  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

Is she stressed in some way? Could she be the victim of a hen higher up the pecking order? Is she losing any feathers (mini-moult)?
