I have finally plucked up (excuse expression) the courage to take Dirty Harry and other 2 Light Sussex to market.   :(

He is a fine cockerel but it seems to be causiing problems having a cock bird in the house, the others seem to fight more and so its best he goes.

I am a true softy so its going to be very hard, they are crated up ready to go its just a question of will I actually put them in once I am there or  turn round and go home

Well they have gone, seems wierd without them but I will look out for some nice girls to replace them.

I am getting dirty looks from Buffy and Yum as if to say "you had to spoil our only fun didn't you!!"

Oh and yes I did cry and felt awful but think its best in the long run

well done slowef, it is hard but you know you've done the right thing, there's nothing wrong with feeling sad, and the others are probably thanking you really, thinking peace at last
cheer up and look forward to getting the new girls; good luck with them  :D

Well it was either part with them or eat them and the kids won   plus one or two other reasons,

Hope to get some more shortly after the hols , give me time to clear the run do repairs etc and I would like to have more this time, might go for pure breeds rather than hybrids next time.

Research the breed characteristics well first Richy.  Some don't lay many eggs and some go broody at the drop of an egg

Will do Aunty been reading all the posts on here, thinking of LF light sussex & white leghorn, had requests for white eggs. But will have to see what's available at the market when I go.

I would not have Light Sussex again they are a bit fiesty with the others.

My Buff Orpington lays nice white eggs and they may be small but they are tasty, she has a much nicer disposition as well.

The Omlet site has a good chicken description page and that tells you egg colour as well so quite handy

Good Luck

just wondered.  i saw a few go last week for £4 each.  thought that was pretty good.  I have got rid of loads for nothing in months gone by!  wished i'd have sold mine.
