How come the brassicas on my local farmers stall are spotless, when my garden cabbages are subject to attack, even after spraying. Is there anything I can do apart from grow something else?.

Great question.  My first cauli was a beauty, to be honest I thought a friend on the allotment had bought it from the supermarket and glued it to the top of one of my straggly specimens!  After that all the rest have been terrible, if they're not alien looking horrors they've been eaten to oblivion -  at least the slugs, pigeons, white fly, green fly, black fly and cabbage whites haven't gone hungry this summer.

Because they are allowed to use very strong and specific chemicals against pests and diseases that amateur gardeners are not allowed.
I rather not use them on mine anyway :)

All the nasty chemicals that Brussels (the place not the veg) stop amateur gardeners using the commercial growers still use to the max.

E.U allotment tax will be next .  :tongue2:
