This was a bit of an interesting dilemna for me - should I make it a gardening question, or a poultry page question.  Here goes - I hope to have a few chickens in the near future and have been madly reading up and doing a lot of homework on the subject.  One of the benefits of keeping chickens (besides the eggs) is of course the manure.  Now someone told me that it was excellent for the garden (this I can verify from experience) but NOT good for pear or apple trees.

Does anyone know why?

Up till now, I usually buy the big 20kg of the stuff at a time and dig it in everywhere in my garden where all the fruit trees, fruit bushes etc and roses are, and I've never had any problems (yet!)

Remember that the pellets you purchase are much milder than fresh manure.  I suggest you compost it before using it anywhere other than the comfrey patch
